I am not sure I buy this. Rec centers are not always a "rewards the irresponsible, delinquent and criminal acts of another child."

There is a difference between a reward and and a service. The hope (at least in part) for a rec center is to mingle the trouble making kids whose parents do not care with kids from families that do. My parents raised me in the home, and then put me in an inner city rec center after school to see that not everyone was given what I had been given. That is the beauty of rec centers. When a single mom has to work two jobs because her husband left her or died, she can have some comfort knowing there is a place where older men can help guide her son. Certainly, some will abuse the service, but others will embrace it with thankfulness.

I think the editorial would have been helpful if the writer provided some alternative. Is he going to take families under his wing personally and offer some wisdom to change the systemic patterns that exist broken homes? If not, then let us be more positive about people who are offering alternatives to kids who are not as privileged to have parents like the writer's.

Why is it always Lyndhurst residents that have to take the lead? What's wrong with South Euclid? Lyndhurst builds Legacy Village with private funding entirely, we now own that white elephant at Cedar Center. Lyndhurst takes the lead on all school issues, we only get whiny slop about why we have to excuse parental irresponsibility, like the earlier poster.
