Still Holding Out

REVISED CEDAR CENTER DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT - JULY 2009 -POSTED ON CITY OF SOUTH EUCLID WEBSITE (to compare with original -October 2007 - agreement, use link at bottom of this post):

It seems the Sun Messenger is back to its standard practice of simply taking dictation from city officials. In the article below, the public is misled to believe that there is “progress at Cedar Center” because of a pending development agreement between the City and The Coral Company. What the public isn’t being told, is that there already was a development agreement which was signed in October 2007 and expired January 2009. It was extended for 90 days through April and finally extended 90 more days until July.

The need for a “new” development agreement between the City and Coral could be an indication of significant changes in the terms. South Euclid Oversight will provide the document as soon as it is obtained.

To date, there has been no financial (TIF) agreement reached with the Cleveland Heights University Heights School District regarding the $14 million dollar funding assistance being solicited by South Euclid and the developer.

If in fact the private portion of the funding is in place, why won’t the Mayor release the amount of taxpayer money she intends to use to fulfill her “dream project?”

At Last

The Sun Messenger staff takes off the gloves and gives Georgine Welo a long overdue proverbial “trip to the woodshed” due to the revival of the joint city recreation center idea.

Could this be the beginning of the end of the perpetual cheerleading? Is it possible that the conclusion of the era of the local paper “looking the other way” is upon us? No free lunch? How about no more free pass for city officials in South Euclid? We’ll see. If so, it’s about time.
