Wide Open To Danger....Again

The above video footage of Cedar Center documents irresponsibility and a blatant disregard for the safety of the community. Who shoulders the responsibility?

The Mayor also serves as the Safety Director. The Service Director was apparently tasked to take on an increased responsibility for the Cedar Center project, and therefore a new position was created for Assistant Service Director. If that is indeed the case as indicated by Councilperson Goodman in the 27 second video below, then why does it appear that the demolition site has been recklessly abandoned? Does the Building Commissioner oversee this? Ward 1 Councilperson Ruth Gray is the Chair of the Safety Committee. Cedar Center is in Ward 4, perhaps the Ward 4 Councilperson Jane Goodman would have noticed something askew.

It is unclear who is ultimately responsible for securing the area. However, you can bet that shortly after this video goes public there will be a mad scramble to batten down all hatches.

As of the date of this posting, the demolition site has remained unchanged from the footage taken on May 19th.
  • Mayor’s salary: $83,283.20
  • Building Commissioner’s salary: $83,845
  • Service Director’s salary: $79,769

Monitoring a major demolition project, securing the perimeter, alleviating any stagnant water and debris filled cesspool-like giant holes, and - possibly avoiding any liability and negligence issues due to catastrophic mishaps:

    Cedar Center is like Deja Vu all over again. (exact issue on Greenvale).Same idiots still in charge. My stop watch is set to see how long it takes to resecure site correctly.
    The site is not only poses a severe danger because it is unsecured but it is unsightly as well.
    And what happened to all the asbestos, black mold and rats just from the movie theater alone? Was the public protected from exposure? during it's demolition. And Is there asbestos still on site? REALLY, Who is responsible??
    The City has to manipulate the truth only once, so that every thing they do/say from then on whether it is legit or not comes into question.

    OK...here goes. It is a construction site that is currently under demolition. Yes, there will be rubble and yes it will be unsightly and an eyesore during this temporary phase. That being said, there is no excuse for the area to be unprotected and unsafe. I would think that someone at City Hall, or their representative, would perform daily inspections of the area to ensure that the site is secure. I also hope that the redevelopment has not stalled or worse, shut down. Now that would be a very big problem to put it mildly. Was anything ever done with the extension to the development agreement?

    If the council could have predicted the current recession and credit crisis (which inhibits the developers ability to attain financing to begin work on such a development), one would imagine the council would have not went ahead with the plans to purchase Cedar Center. However, not person, besides hedge fund manager John Paulson anticipated the fallout in the housing market and credit crisis. So while the citizens of South Euclid have every right to be upset at the current state of Cedar Center - you need to consider the current economic conditions that are making the development process much slower than ever anticipated and given normal economic conditions this project would have likely been completed or at least started by now.
