ORDINANCE: 19-10
“WHEREAS, the Council of the City of South Euclid, Ohio recognizes that the City is experiencing budgetary shortfalls effecting the financial stability of the City as a result of the
Councilperson Jane Goodman made the following statement during a committee meeting on Monday, April 19, 2010. This is the first time publicly that a city official has taken some responsibility for the colossal mistakes that have occurred:
“We screwed ourselves, pardon my French, but it’s time for plain speaking—with some expenditures—some loans that—some things that we did that put us in iffy financial positions…And I know that our citizens want to see us spend less if we’re going to ask them to contribute more.”

I'm as angry about this as anyone. But the real issue is that people who work in Cuyahoga County are being taxed based on where they work, rather than where they live & vote. That's taxation without representation!
The best part of this story, is besides that besides a short story about the thinking of doing this:

And it even seemed to me that the tax increase was not needed since the police union accepted concessions

It's good to know that after we voted to increase taxes in 2005 that created a budget surplus http://blog.cleveland.com/sunmessenger/2007/12/south_euclid_city_tops_8_milli.html , that our mayor & city council have no problem voting for a tax increase on us.
It is also nice of them to vote on this tax increase that has no impact on their personal tax bills, only their residents.
Anyone know when this is being voted on?
We’ll check the city website for the agenda and update this post as soon as it’s available (most likely this Friday). The vote could be this Monday, April 26th.
