Misdirected Machismo

EDITORIAL NOTE: THE CITY HAS REMOVED THE OFFENSIVE SPECIAL EFFECTS FROM THE NEW POLICE WEBSITE SINCE THE POSTING OF THIS PIECE ON SOUTH EUCLID OVERSIGHT. THE LINK BELOW NO LONGER FEATURES A HAIL OF GUNFIRE AND BULLET HOLES.
PLEASE NEGOTIATE THIS POST BY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN BLUE.....

FIRST- CLICK ON THE FOLLOWING LINK WITH YOUR SOUND TURNED UP! WHEN DONE VIEWING, USE YOUR BACK ARROW TO RETURN TO THIS POST.......

NEXT- PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING.......

  • South Euclid Oversight fully supports, and appreciates the majority of the efforts of the South Euclid Police Department. However, the birth of their new website featuring dramatic special effects including simulated automatic weapon fire may just be a tad over the top. It is unfortunate that the caliber of legislation being unleashed on the city crime wave initiated by toy guns doesn't really project such a fierce display of machismo.

FINALLY- CLICK ON THE ARTICLE BELOW TO VIEW THE TEXT......

This legislation will, no doubt, have the same insignificant impact on reducing crime, as the Window Treatment legislation affected the value of the Housing Stock.

Below is a link to WOXY.COM where there is some interesting reaction to the original display of brute force portrayed by the new police website as it appeared at that time:

Wrong. The website is good. Anything that puts the fear in criminals is good, especially here. You don't expect Georgine to do it on her own.

There is nothing wrong with it your are nitpicking.

Don't you think its a little "overkill"?

There is a brand new city website. Where is the money coming from for all this fluff? Artistic value has nothing to do with it.

The police and fire departments each have there own web sites now. The money tree must be planted out front of Gorgenes house.

What??? There is absolutely nothing wrong with this site. On the contrary, upon browsing further, I found it to be one of the most creative designs I have ever seen from a police department.
So much of what these police officers do inherently involves violence, the same as with our soldiers in the armed forces. Violence, often times, is unfortunately just part of the job. Remember, it is because of these men and their, as you say, "machismo", that people have the freedom in this country to say what they like in public.
In short...Lighten Up!

THE FOLLOWING COMMENT WAS LEFT ON THE CLEVELAND.COM SOUTH EUCLID FORUM BY SUSHI23
---------------------------------
That is, quite frankly, an appalling use of HTML code. Why does the Police Department feel the need to create a seige mentality? They don't need to be warm and fuzzy, but this is ridiculous. This design isn't going to strike fear into the hearts of any criminals. The only people who are even going to visit the police department website are going to be law-abiding citizens who need to find out information about the parking tickets or traffic court or something similar. This over-the-top display of machismo and militarism does nothing to engender a feeling of mutual trust between the department and the residents whom they are theoretically serving.
Give me the policemen who give you a friendly wave as they drive or walk their beat or stop and buy lemonade from some kid's lemonade stand. Those are the people that I would trust to be there for me in an emergency with a clear head and a steady trigger finger. The new website engenders an adversarial, us-vs.-them mentality that is detrimental to the department's image.

Seriously??!!?? Oh no, the police are using some sound effects on their website...Lets call the ACLU, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the PTA...
"Militarism and machismo"...give me a break...the website is informative with out being the usual stuffy, boring government site.
And unlike Sushi23, if I need a policeman in an emergency with a "clear head and steady trigger finger" I really don't care whether or not he bought lemonade from the kid on the corner or whether he waves when he is driving around. I just hope that he is well trained and has the nerve to do the job that people like Sushi23 could never do in a million years. So those of you who are whining about this website, leave the cops and their site alone, stay in your politically correct bubble and start taking your medication again, because it sounds to me like you have lost touch with reality!

The relies to the poll on the woxy website seem to, for the most oart, be posted by a bunch of people who just don't like the police. They really don't offer anything of substance, just a bunch of demeaning comments about the police.

I merely wished to officially say "Hi there" to everyone here. In my opinion , that this appears like an unusually appealing place to be online.

I cannot wait to begin. Do you have any sort of guidance for someone in the beginning stages? Any certain section that you would advise more versus others to begin?

I want to to share with you a quote that i have often found to be tremendously motivational in order to start formal introductions:
