Northeast Ohio suburbs are being plagued by financial hardships, but apparently not in South Euclid where money grows on trees. Other suburbs are faced with eliminating positions and curtailing city services.
In South Euclid however, the atmosphere is an economic bonanza. In 2007 the Mayor was unanimously granted a 16% raise by the 7 members of City Council who also voted themselves a pay increase.
Simultaneously, nearly all of the Administration received a salary hike. $1.8 million and counting vanished instantly upon the harebrained scheme to purchase the 9 Greenvale Drive properties.
$18 million was spent on the Cedar Center debacle, plus the untold story of the actual amount yet to be tallied.
Most recently a new position was created for a "Housing Manager" at a starting annual salary of $63,000.
Is South Euclid the only suburb not enduring the economic strain of the times? Perhaps when the entire tale is finally revealed it will be too late. The community needs to ask the questions and demand the answers!

Whoa Nellie!
When did top shelf experience in "SPIN" become the most desired skill set for suburban mayors? What about the balance on the books left by previous Mayor Kocevar and the significant increase in property and income tax levied under Mayor Welo? Can't the Sun Messenger do a little homework here?
It's like Shiek Abdul who sits on an oil field proclaiming that he is a financial wizard. He built a camel park, balanced the books and gave himself and his bodyguards a raise. Meanwhile the bedowins move on. Yes, they are scaring me.
No, the Sun Messenger can't do basic reporting. Next question.
Remember the old Jethro Tull Album:
Too old to rock and roll and too young to die?
It's like they're not really good enough to run the city but they're not bad enough to get run out of office.
speaking of spending, im hearing rumors from friends in the development biz about Corral Company thinking twice about the cedar center project. wonder whose gonna be paying the bill for that one...
