Outrageous Opulent Spending

  • time: 6 min. 07 sec.

In these troubled economic times, was a taxpayer funded trip to Orlando, Florida justified? Councilwoman Jane Goodman is the only member of council who suggests that a junket to Florida wasn’t a prudent move on the part of city officials.

The public is entitled to know:

  • Airline ticket cost and dates of travel for each individual attending the NLC conference in Orlando, Florida.
  • Hotel cost per person including: dates, room service, movie rental and telephone charges.
  • All rental car expenses either submitted for reimbursement or charged on a city credit card and all parking fees.
  • Individual expense account forms submitted for reimbursement.
  • All records of city issued credit card purchases associated with this seminar.
  • Cost of paid registration fees and a complete list of seminars and events attended for each individual at the “Congress of Cities” conference.
  • Was this travel limited to city officials or did this travel include any spouses, family members or guests?

      WOW...YER' KILLIN' ME.I LOG ON...SEE "HEADLINE"..."OUTRAGEOUS OPULENT SPENDING"! I BITE,HARD.
SCROLL DOWN,RUN THE "JANE GOODMAN" VIDEO.IT ALMOST PUT ME IN A COMA!!!!!
PLEASE,THAT IS TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR.I CANNOT RECALL HOW MANY TIMES I HAD TO "STOP",GO BACK AND REPLAY,PART, AFTER PART, OF THAT VIDEO.IN SEARCH OF SOME HUGE "REVELATION" OF "OUTRAGEOUS OPULENT SPENDING".
ANYWAY, AROUND 5:50 INTO THE VIDEO;5:50 MINUTES OF MY LIFE WASTED,JANE FINALLY MAKES THE POINT THAT "THERE ARE SO MANY LOCAL ORGANISATIONS THAT WE CAN MEET WITH,TO EDUCATE,AND FORM COMMON PROFESSIONAL,AND COMMUNAL PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH.JUST WHAT A TRUE "LOCAL" REPRESENTATIVE WAS ELECTED TO DO.
NOW,MS. GOODMAN IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY.BUT WHATEVER ELSE SHE WAS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WAS TOTALLY LOST TO ME.I DON'T THINK I HAVE EVER WITNESSED MORE LACK OF ENERGY,LACK OF VIGOR,LACK OF ANY SENSE OF URGENCY,OR ACCOMPLISHMENT.
MY LORD,THE COUNCIL ONLY MEETS,FOR A FEW HOURS,EVERY 2 WEEKS!!!! WEEKS....YOU'D THINK THINGS WOULD MOVE ALONG AT LEAST AT A SNAIL' PACE.
AND YOU NEED TO ASK "WHY IS OUR COUNTRY IN SUCH DIRE STRAIGHTS",AND THE MORE DISTURBING,MORE FRIGHTENING QUESTION OF "HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS MESS,A MESS WE KNOW WE CREATED,WE ELECTED THESE PEOPLE,WE BELIEVED WHAT THESE PEOPLE TOLD US,WE WERE FOOLED.WE WERE TAKEN TO PROVERBIAL "WOODSHED,FER A'WHIPPIN'".WE'VE ALLOWED OUR PREJUDICES,OUR SELFISHNESS,OUR GREED GET THE BETTER OF US. WE VOTE FOR,AND VOICIFERLY SPEW OUR SUPPORT FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT WILL FEED OUR CRAVINGS,CATER TO OUR TASTES.TO SUPPORT OUR CLASS ENVY,BIGOTRY,TO SPLIT US APART IN ALL ISSUES.
DIVISION,DIVIDE THE PEOPLE.GET THEM FIGHTING OVER EVERY ISSUE.CONVINCE THEM THERE IS NO COMMON GROUND.PIT THEM AGAINST ONE ANOTHER.DIVIDE AND CONQUER.YOU KNEW I WAS GOIN' THERE.
      WOW,JANE SURE IS CONTROVERSIAL.

I'm not sure what you're ranting about, but I believe you've missed the point. These people that are supposed to be looking out for our interest in times of economic crisis are blowing money like there's no financial hardships at all facing the city.

I apologize to my fellow reader.
You are correct,I did go off on a rant.I agree with you completely that our elected rep.'s find no limits when it comes to wasting our tax dollars.Nor do they have any qualms about contriving more ways to tax us when they want more of our money to spend on their "pet projects",or their egotistical attempts to play Donald Trump-millionaire realestate developer.
I think Councilwoman Jane was trying to reign in some of the "opulent" spending.Hooray.I support her attempts.
My "rant" was about the lack of energy, forcefullness, commitment to the cause(maybe not the best descriptors)that just seemed to ooze from the video. And it's not just that video.I have watched many, many others on this awesome site. It's bad enough that we actually elected these people. But to then see the lifeless, droning, the boilerplate responses, when confronted by a citizen posing legitimate questions.
Somewhere on this site is a letter
written by our legal director Mr. Lograsso. In it he states, not an exact quote here, something about,"elected officials having no legal responsibility to answer our questions."
Not an exact quote, but close enough.I bring this up to prove my total agreement with you.Our leaders are out of control.
      To quote President Elect Obama...
"govt. should be transparent".We are not ignorant people. We elected people to serve us.With honor, respectability, and most of all, truthfully.
Of course a new vibrant shopping center, new housing developments, the hated annual school levies, are, and could be,great assets(taxes)for our city.
We do need these projects, especially in "tough" times.Jobs, taxes, diversity in our populace.
It's the way our leaders try to hide, distort, and deceive us in order to fund these projects that really worries me.Maybe my words are too strong? But I don't see much on this site that leads me to believe otherwise.

I just wanted to say here also,(I'm everywhere)let's not forget about the "season" we are entering. From Thanksgiving,to Christmas,to New Years Eve.A time to give thanks,a time to share best wishes, humanity, and love,(presents are good too!)and a time to celebrate the end of a year, and promises of a new year.
Try to turn the negatives of last year into positives this year.It can be done. But let us ignore all things political, negative, bad news, and depressing issues for just these few days. And please, don't tell me that things are soooo bad,we can't blow it off.The hell we can't!And I'm sure not gonna' baby you and tell you why y'all have got something to be thankfull for.Reflect on your life, the people that have been, and may still,be a part of your life.Good God,just suck in a lungfull of our clean north coast air.Life giving, clean, honest, and still free...air.Give thanks to the Lord...someday you know a politician will come up with an "oxygen tax".It's already 75 cents at the gas stations!
      Really,God bless y'all.Merry Christmas,Hanuka,Kwanza...
