If there is a need to take the issue to the voting public, would it be possible to accompany that with a Recall of involved officials?
The ruination of an untold number of homes because the gas company turned off the heat, but the water department did not turn off the water, resulting in burst water pipes, constitutes egregious malfeasance on the part of the Housing Department. Requiring both utilities to act in coordination with utility cessation would not have required intrusive inspection. I, at least, hold the Housing Department at fault for what must be $millions in ruined property.
We shouldn't have to spend our time and energy preventing damage from city officials. We should boot them out of office.
