Local School Newspaper Article

April 2, 2007- A young author writes an article in a local school newspaper: "In our South Euclid community, a very interesting activity is taking place. You may have seen all of the construction on Anderson Road. The city has decided to cut down the trees and build houses or condos in its place. Some may say it's good for our city. Others, like (name omitted) a sixth grader in (name omitted) classroom, oppose the idea. Her way of showing her feelings to the city of South Euclid was to write a letter to the mayor. There is nothing anyone can change because all the trees have already been cut down, but she still felt the need to let her position be known. She obviously feels that this was the wrong thing to do. (She) was not the only one who participated in letting the city know her feelings. Other people that live in the community also participated but in other ways, such as a petition to try and and stop this."--It would be interesting to know if Mayor Welo ever responded to this letter.

At What Cost To The Taxpayers?

The Plain Dealer reported on April 15, 2007: "South Euclid-Lyndhurst Superintendent William Zelei also is planning a trip to China. In June, he will join several hundred American educators as they learn about China's education system and culture and establish ties with sister schools and cities. Zelei said the district hopes to offer Chinese at Memorial Junior High and Brush High in fall 2008."- Who will foot this bill for a trip to China?

No Plans For Greenvale

Please review the aerial photograph of the Greenvale properties purchased by South Euclid at the following post, City Funded Real Estate Venture.

The Sun Messenger on March 29, 2007 stated, "Mayor Georgine Welo said the plan now involves waiting for the sale of nearby Lowden School, which will be sold by the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Board of Education, perhaps by the fall." They quote Welo: "Maybe we can do something with the developer who buys Lowden School. Or, we can go in another direction. This may be our chance to expand Quarry Park."

The properties are not contiguous. One is across the street.

The speculative development scenarios the Mayor hopes for would have significant hurdles to overcome. The proximity of these properties to Lowden School does not appear feasible as an option, nor does the expansion of Quarry Park as the properties are not contiguous. There are many uncertainties regarding this gamble.

Just say "NO" to Point-of-Sale Inspections!!

City officials are proposing that this pre-sale inspection be imposed on home owners at a cost of approximately $175.00 before the house can be sold. One member of City Council supports this action by saying, "These inspections would be the same type of exterior inspections we already require, no more and no less."-- Then why should anyone have to pay $175.00 for such an inspection if it already occurs as a matter of routine? Why don't city officials want the issue on a ballot so the citizens can vote on it?
