Standing Room Only!

The videos below were taken at the South Euclid City Council meeting on May 24, 2010.

There was standing room only. Many people were eager to share their displeasure with the Mayor and City Council for revoking the tax credit for residents who work outside the city of South Euclid. The Mayor did not arrive to the meeting on time and heard only the last 2 ½ citizens who spoke. Interestingly, after arriving late to the last council meeting, on May 10th she gave the explanation that she had been attending practice for “Sing Out” to benefit the Rape Crisis Center. (video clip below)  That event is being promoted by Georgine Welo on her campaign for County Executive website. The events and people surrounding this benefit would afford Mayor Welo the opportunity to hobnob - a publicity windfall for the Welo campaign. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, angry taxpayers one by one had their say. The Mayor missed the first 9 ½ citizens who spoke.

Regarding the videos below: South Euclid Oversight has chosen to protect the privacy of the citizens who speak at city council meetings. Names and addresses of people have been removed, and every effort is made to NOT show the person at the microphone. Occasionally, there are times when a glimpse or two of someone approaching or at the microphone cannot be avoided. If you are having difficulty viewing a video, try this: allow the video to “buffer,” or play once through first before viewing.

Public / Private Campaign?

The cancellation of the annual South Euclid Home Days celebration due to financial necessity was announced at the 2009 Budget Hearings. Councilwoman Jane Goodman states her preference to cancel the Memorial Day Parade. Finance Director Joe Filippo responds, “I think the Mayor is very strong on the parade.”

Flash forward to 2010. Should the City of South Euclid be spending money to have a Memorial Day parade? Is there any possible correlation between a parade which grants instant access to a lot of high profile community face-time with great photo ops and say, the Mayor’s big campaign for County Executive?

  • time: 0 min. 54 sec.

Is there an overlap in resources for Mayor Georgine Welo’s campaign for Cuyahoga County Executive?

  • time: 1 min. 17 sec.

From 1996-1998, Georgine Welo served as the Co-Executive of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party after being appointed by Cuyahoga County Democratic Chair Jimmy Dimora. In 1998, she was appointed Administrative Bailiff to Judge Ann T. Mannen, in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.  For related SEO post please see, Irreconcilable Details.
